Seoul, Olympic Park

September 4, 2008, it was a 'TaeKwonDo Day' in South Korea. Many TaeKwonDo athletes waited for this event. The slogan for this year said, "Through TaeKwondo We Become One". Participants gathered together and celebrated this wonderful day full of TaeKwonDo spirit and culture.

At the Olympic Park Square in Seoul, Korea, about 7000 passionate spectators showed up. Of those 7000, many prominent persons also attended this festival including: government officials, Congressmen, TKD organizations, Olympic medalists, oversea masters, TKD students, and many fans. TKD people attended the event in their uniforms to emphasize and celebrate TKD.

A college student attendee Sang Gyun You said, "I've never had so much fun doing TKD. The atmosphere is very comfortable and you can freely enjoy yourself here".

At 3:00 pm, cultural events began such as "I love TKD", "I am a TKD star", "TKD Playground", and others. By 7:00 pm, ceremonies commenced with Dong Ah professor inducted as an IOC committee member, followed by screening of TKD Playground Master Plan, and ending with Kukiwon Demonstration Team.

The chief of cultural gymnasium, In Cheon Yoo stated, "I am proud of TKD, I love TKD, all TKD people, Fighting". His statement fired up the crowd, and he continued by saying, "TKD is the source of Korean Wave. We have come a long way since Korea TKD Organization started in 1961. The oversea masters and instructors deserve a lot of credit for this accomplishment. Now the government needs to step in and help out because of the TKD situation with Olympic Games. We need to change this critical state into opportunity".

The president of Korea TKD Organization Jun Pyo Hong followed by saying, "government and congressmen, TKD participants need to work together in order to futher develop TKD".

As the speakers delivered their message inside the square, many college TKD athletes had set up booths and performed demonstrations outside the square. Numerous college teams rivaled each other trying to promote their teams. The atmosphere was filled with passion.

At this event, Korea TKD Organization President Jun Pyo Hong, President of WTF Jung Won Cho, Vice President Dae Soon Lee attended. Along with these presidents, Beijing Olympic Gold Medalists Soo Jung Yim, Tae Jin Hwang, and Dong Min Cha held a signing session.

TKD Day celebrates the day when TKD was accepted by the IOC as an Olympic sport on September 4, 1994, which was established by the WTF in 2006
